About the Section
Vision Statement
"Overseeing Water for the 21st Century"
Mission Statement
Dedicated to leading, educating, and serving the drinking
water community to ensure public health and to provide safe and
sufficient water for all.
An Introduction to California-Nevada Section AWWA
Over the last 85 years, the California-Nevada Section has grown from 52 California Section members in 1920 to a current membership of approximately 8,000. Eleven full time staff members work with hundreds of active volunteers and leaders to orchestrate and administer the vast number of programs and services offered by the Section. Through its volunteers and professional staff, the Section has been a leader in developing water industry guidelines, standards, procedures, training, certification and newsletters.

Education
Among the Section's many educational activities is the Water College©,
founded in December of 1999. The Water College was created to actively
support CA-NV-AWWA's mission of of leading, educating, and serving
the drinking water community to ensure public health and to provide
safe and sufficient water for all. The Water College specializes
in water curriculum and instruction. Its focus is making water education
accessible to everyone in the drinking water profession. The Water
College is an IACET Authorized Provider offering full college-level
coursework in water curriculum. Since the founding of the Water
College, over 3,500 students have participated in educational offerings.
Recently, the Section has begun a new educational program, the
Educational Extravaganza.
Certification
The Section currently administers the operator certification program for the State of Nevada and provides services for operator certification to the California Department of Health Services. These certification programs independently certify water personnel in six distinct disciplines, with a total number of certified individuals served by the Section numbering over 20,000.
Conferences and Committees
The Section has over 50 standing committees and convenes annual Spring and Fall Conferences, as well as numerous workshops. The Certification Board committee is responsible for the Section's certification activity.
Awards and Scholarships
CA-NV AWWA runs a scholarship program to assist students who are pursuing a career which would apply to the field of water supply and treatment. The Section also sponsors numerous awards in categories covering everything from scientific contributions to engineering achievement to service to the water industry.
