Water College
The California-Nevada Section of the American Water Works Association
(CA-NV-AWWA) founded the Water College in December of 1999. The
Water College was founded to actively support the Section’s
mission: “Dedicated to leading, educating, and serving the drinking
water community to ensure public health and to provide safe and
sufficient water for all.”
In 2001, the Water College
received its accreditation through the International Association of
Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and continues to be an
IACET authorized provider. The California Department of Health
Services and the Nevada Dept of Environmental Protection accept
Water College courses/workshops.
The Water College
specializes in water curriculum and instruction. The focus on the Water College
is to make water education accessible to everyone in the drinking water
profession. Unlike other educational institutions that offer classes only
during the traditional semester schedules, or by correspondence with no
instructor support or interaction, the Water College offers classes throughout
the year at member utility facilities throughout California and Nevada. Water
College has developed 40-hour courses, (which is equivalent to 3.6 CEU's) to
meet the growing demand for water education. This is extremely beneficial for
everyone; those that are preparing to take a certification exam and need the
required courses as well as economical for employers investing in their
personnel.
Courses are offered several
ways:
Public
courses/workshops (click
here for 2008 calendar):
Public courses/workshops
are offered 12 months of the year and are open to any person working in the
water industry. Courses include Introduction, Intermediate and Advanced Water
Distribution and Treatment. All courses offer CEU credit. Refreshers, which
offer contact hours, are scheduled several times a month to review materials
covered in the courses, as well as help prepare for the certification exams.
Private
courses/workshops
Private courses/workshops
are held at a utility and are offered as private training for the staff of the
utility (contract site). Many utilities are facing significant challenges in
locating quality water instruction that is affordable, convenient and flexible.
The Water College provides the instructor and continuing education units (CEU’s)
and can be scheduled at utilities for times that fit the needs of that
particular utility.
Each course and or workshop
is a flat rate and all-inclusive for a maximum of 40 students. There is no
minimum enrollment. For smaller utility or organizational members, partnering
with a local member may be beneficial. Value added services such as additional
study materials from the Water College Bookstore or Certification Exams from the
CA-NV-AWWA certification program are available for an additional fee and require
individual applications.
To book your private course please contact Carol Husband, Education Manager at

Your utility can also act
as a host site for the Water College. In addition to being offered to your
staff, the courses/workshops are open to the public. As the host site, your
utility is eligible for complimentary registrations. Please contact Carol

The Water College also
provides Contact Hours for Teleconferences, Conferences, Symposiums,
Extravaganzas and Workshops. Contact Hours are required for Operator
Certification Renewal in California and Nevada. Continuing education will be
required for individuals who hold CA-NV AWWA certificates in Water Distribution,
Water Treatment, Cross-Connection & Lab Analyst in 2005. Certificate holders
submitting renewal applications after July 1, 2005 will need to complete
continuing education contact hours.
In addition to water curriculum, the Water
College offers a complete bookstore of water and water-related publications. The
Water College is a full-service educational institution designed for you and
your water utility in mind.
