Backflow Refresher: 8 Hrs.

Objective: This workshop will cover the topics that the students will be tested on for their Backflow Certification through AWWA. Students must have previously completed a 40 Hr. Backflow Course.

Hazard Communication and Chlorine Safety: 8 Hrs.

Objective: This class will assist employers and employees to: Recognize, evaluate, and inventory hazardous chemicals in the workplace. This class was developed to explain the hazards of working with chemicals in the water utility field. Students are encouraged to bring MSDS's from their workplace and a copy of their written Hazard Communication plan. Materials and handouts will be provided and students will work in groups.

CAL OSHA Overview Part I: 4 Hrs.

Objective: This workshop will examine an overview of the fundamental occupational safety and health topics that are required to promote a safe and healthful work environment in the water utility field.

CAL OSHA Overview Part II: 4 Hrs.

Objective: The student will acquire the knowledge to apply effective techniques to recognize, identify, control or eliminate, and correct unsafe workplace conditions. This workshop examines how an effective industrial accident prevention program implements principles and techniques to minimize the frequency and severity of industrial accidents. A successful program focuses on the control or elimination of hazards in the work place.

Emergency Planning and Disaster Preparedness: 4 Hrs.

Objective: This workshop will benefit individuals who are responsible for emergency management or disaster preparedness operations. The workshop emphasizes the requirements of the California Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS) and how to apply them to the emergency planning process. This workshop examines emergency planning and disaster preparedness management as practiced in California.

Confined Space Entry and Respiratory Protection: 8 Hrs.

Objective: This class will assist individuals to Recognize, evaluate and control confined space hazards, save lives and protect individuals from job-related injuries and illnesses, promote safe and effective work practices, reduce preventable workers compensation losses, comply with T8 CCR, Article 108, sections 5156-5158. CAL/OSHA’s regulation for worker use of respirators took effect November 1998. Sections 5144 in title 8, CCR, details steps employers must take to assure safe and effective use of respirators in the workplace.

Overview: This full-day workshop is divided into two portions.
First Half of Workshop
  • Explain the hazards of confined space work
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining an effective confined space program
  • Information about confined spaces
  • Definitions about confined spaces
  • Requirements for entry into permit-required confined spaces
  • Annual employee training
  • Periodic program evaluation
Second Half of Workshop
  • Elements of the Respirator Program
