Description:
Assessing the condition of buried pipelines is an essential task for asset owners in gauging ongoing and future maintenance needs; slating of phased improvements; and identifying system defects and deficiencies that require immediate action to avoid unforeseen and costly emergency repairs.  The capital improvement plan or program that results can serve as a guidebook for planning and allocating resources based on multi-year forecasts.

One element of forecasting that is often applied to large diameter and pressure pipelines is the calculation of Remaining Useful Life, or RUL.  The RUL is a common metric for assessing the condition of ductile iron pipe, steel pipe, or concrete pressure pipe in particular.  The quality of data utilized toward this calculation directly translates to quality of output.  When little data is available, results may vary wildly relative to assumptions made.  For example, selection of one assumed in-situ trench type over another can result in a decade or more difference in RUL.

This webinar will discuss various criteria that support calculating RUL of an asset, including both desktop and field inspection data collection.  A case study will be presented showing how the criteria is analyzed (and scrutinized) toward methodically determining RULs of many miles of ductile and cast iron forcemains, with an emphasis on which factors were reviewed closely with the asset owner to ensure any assumptions made were sound and appropriate.

This webinar is 10:00 am - 11:00 am on May 17.
