Addressing Aging Water Infrastructure

Description:
Water utilities are facing the issues of aging infrastructure as well as work forces that are eligible for retirement.  This can present risks to the community's water supply in terms of availability and safety.  This class will look at these issues.  It will evaluate how to address aging infrastructure and systems, discuss planning for moderation and how these issues can be mitigated.  It will also look at best practices and maintenance to get the longest possible life out of existing systems.  Finally, it will discuss funding options.

This class is 7:30 am - 11:30 am on August 28.
Earn up to 4 contact hours (based on attendance).

Instructor: Henry Palechek

Henry Palechek has been working in the water utility field since 1986.  He started at the City of San Diego and later moved to Helix Water District.  Helix has a 106 MGD water treatment plant with ozone as its primary disinfectant, a 50 square mile water distribution system, serving about 500,000 connections which includes delivering water to three other districts.  Henry has been teaching community college classes in water technology since 1993.  He holds a BS degree in Information Systems and four AS degrees in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Electronic Technology, and Computer Science.   He currently holds a California T5 and D3 certification and an AWWA CA/NV AWTO 5.

Requests for refunds and transfers must be made in writing and are subject to the following conditions: Full refund of fee paid (minus 25% handling fee) will be issued for cancellations received more than 15 days prior to class start date. All fees are non-refundable thereafter. Transfers are based on availability. No transfer requests will be authorized if they are not received more than 15 days prior to class start date. A 100% refund or credit of your registration fee will be issued if a class is canceled by the Section.
